Happy New Year!

Ah, the first day of the new year. I like to think of a new year as a chance to strip away old prejudices and purge my mind of stagnant thoughts and patterns. Everything is fresh; slates are wiped clean. With a new year, comes new challenges, adventures. New hardships, solutions. By facing it all with a fresh perspective, we can renew our sense of creativity and vitality. Rather than looking at things the way we always do, we can persuade fresh channels of thought. Capture the essence of what is important, shed the clutter. Better yet, we should look at each day as a reason to revitalize our perspectives. Sure a new year is a solid reason for starting over, how is a new day any different? (Besides the fact that it is still the same year, I mean.) Yoga teaches us to view life from all perspectives: upside down, sideways, backwards, forwards, etc. If we take these vantage points literally we will see myriad perspectives, enhancing our tolerance and capacity for love.
